A Wanaque New Jersey man was charged with drunk driving after allegedly stealing a car and then leading Pennsylvania State Police troopers on a high-speed chase.
The suspect is a 37-year-old resident of the Haskell section of Wanaque in Passaic County, NJ. According to law enforcement officials, he stole a motor vehicle in Philadelphia PA.
A patrol officer saw the suspect driving the vehicle, a Chevy TrailBlazer, on Route 322 around midnight. The suspect allegedly committed a traffic violation, prompting the cop to try to pull him over. That’s when the suspect reportedly accelerated and kept driving.
Police chased the suspect across multiple PA counties, including Lebanon County, Dauphin County, and Lancaster County. The suspect eventually came to a stop in Lancaster County after police officers set up stop sticks on the road.
The Wanaque NJ man has been charged with a number of crimes in Pennsylvania, including eluding police, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of stolen property. He was also cited for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
