Paterson New Jersey police officers arrested three men who were reportedly responsible for a shooting that left a teen girl with critical wounds.
The suspects are a 20-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, and a 24-year-old man, all of whom are from Paterson in Passaic County, New Jersey. According to authorities, the three suspects committed the violent assault crime just before 2:30 a.m. in the area of Carroll Street and 12th Avenue in Paterson, NJ.
A Paterson NJ police officer was off duty and near the scene when he heard gunshots being fired. The officer rushed to the site of the shooting, where he reportedly saw the suspects fleeing and the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl visiting NJ from Michigan, was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and treated for her injuries. Hospital officials later said that the victim was in critical condition.
The Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a joint investigation into the shooting and soon identified the three suspects.
It is believed by investigators that the suspects were targeting other people in the shooting and that the teen victim was just an innocent bystander.
Police have now captured the three suspects. The men face numerous criminal charges, including charges for attempted murder and aggravated assault. The suspects have also been charged with multiple criminal weapons charges for unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
