In 2016, there were 5,060 crimes reported in Paterson, New Jersey. That was a significant improvement over the previous year. Beyond that, the total number of reported crimes in Paterson in 2016 was the lowest figure in 25 years.

Aggravated assaults and robberies were among the types of crimes that declined in 2016.

The improved crime stats in Paterson NJ have been credited to new law enforcement strategies, including targeted patrols focusing on parts of the city with high amounts of gang violence and other criminal activity.

After news of the crime statistics was released, Paterson Police Department Director Jerry Speziale issued a statement and said that local police will “continue to work together to find new and innovative approaches to further reduce crime.”

The data from the Uniform Crime Report wasn’t all great. According to statistics, the total number of homicides in Paterson remained the same from 2015 to 2016.
