Paterson NJ Aggravated Assault LawyersPaterson New Jersey law enforcement is looking for a suspect in an early morning shooting that resulted in three men suffering serious injuries.

According to authorities, the violent incident occurred after 5:00 a.m. The incident began with a verbal altercation among a group of people standing on East 42nd Street in Paterson, NJ. At some point, the verbal dispute turned physical, with at least one of the individuals allegedly taking out a handgun and firing several gunshots.

The gunshots reportedly struck three people, leaving there with significant physical injuries. One of the victims sustained wounds to his torso and his leg. Another victim suffered an injury to his torso. A third victim suffered a minor graze wound to his arm.

All three victims were taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson NJ, where doctors provided them with medical treatment for their gunshot-related injuries. Hospital officials later said that the victims were in stable condition.

Detectives with the Paterson Police Department are investigating the shooting incident and searching for the suspect.

If Paterson NJ police can eventually determine the identity of the suspect, he would probably be charged with aggravated assault. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon such as a handgun is a third degree crime. A conviction on third degree aggravated assault charges could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
