Paterson New Jersey Handgun LawyersPaterson New Jersey police officers fatally shot a man accused of illegally possessing a handgun while walking on a city street.

The tragic incident unfolded around 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of Oak Street and Summit Street in Paterson, NJ. Paterson NJ police officers had been sent to the area after getting a report of a man carrying a firearm.

Police officers found the man and a confrontation ensued, with police and the suspect exchanging gunfire. The victim was killed after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in the altercation.

Authorities later identified the victim as a longtime resident of Paterson who had recently moved to Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. The victim was 36 years old at the time of his death.

Family members of the victim talked to the media after the police shooting and said that the victim used to live near the area where the fatal shooting occurred.

One of the victim’s friend spoke with the media and said that the victim was struggling with a lot of person stuff – “family issues and financial issues” – the days preceding the fatal shootout with police.

Since the police shooting resulted in a fatality, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is actively investigating the incident. The day after the fatal shooting, police investigators were at the scene and looking for evidence.
