The Prospect Park Police Department started an investigation after Prestige Party Rental, the party equipment provider, filed a police report. The party company told police that they had been victims of a theft.

Prospect Park NJ police turned the investigation over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, which eventually located $60K worth of the stolen items in two garages in Paterson, New Jersey. The stolen equipment included 20 tables, 180 folding chairs, and 10 commercial tents.

The suspects are brothers who live in Paterson and Bloomfield, respectively. They have been charged with receiving stolen property.

If the suspects are ultimately convicted of receiving stolen property, they face significant penalties. Since the criminal charges are considered third degree felonies, the suspects could potentially be sentenced to 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.

Beyond that, the suspects could be subject to additional criminal charges if police can locate the $140,000 worth of stolen party equipment that remains missing.
