Wayne NJ police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman accused of committing a theft at a local store.
The theft incident happened around 10:20 a.m. at the Dollar Kraze store the Brentwood Plaza, which is located at 1625 Route 23 South in Wayne, NJ.
The victim reportedly forgot her wallet at the store and then left the shopping center.
According to authorities, the female suspect was inside the store when she saw the wallet and decided to take it. She spoke with a store employee and allegedly said that the wallet belonged to her friend. However, Wayne NJ police indicated that the suspect never returned the wallet to the victim.
Now Wayne New Jersey police are hoping that the public might be able to provide assistance in identifying the suspect. Law enforcement recently released photo of the suspect, who is described as a female with dirty blonde hair. When the suspect allegedly committed the theft, she was wearing a plain green sweatshirt, dark jeans, and black sunglasses.
Witnesses at the scene told Wayne investigators that the suspect might reside in Wayne because she is frequently seen shopping at the Brentwood Plaza shops.
If police can eventually identify and apprehend the suspect, she would face significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3, theft of movable property valued in excess of $500 is a third degree crime and can result in a sentence of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
If anyone has information about the theft or the suspect, they are asked to call Wayne detectives at 973-633-3537.
