Paterson New Jersey police are investigating a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of a local resident.
The victim was a 29-year-old man from Paterson, NJ. According to Passaic County prosecutors, the victim was walking in the area of Straight Street and Montgomery Street around 3:00 a.m. when someone used a gun to fire multiple gunshots at him.
The Paterson Police Department received a 911 call about gunshots being fired and dispatched police officers to the scene. When Paterson NJ cops got to the shooting, they found the victim lying on the pavement and suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Paterson officers also found a second victim, a 22-year-old Paterson man, who was shot as well.
Responders pronounced the first victim dead at the scene of the shooting. Meanwhile, the second victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the homicide, including the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
If detectives can eventually identify and arrest the shooter, that person would likely face criminal charges for first degree murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses.
