Ringwood New Jersey police arrested a local man who allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend in a domestic violence altercation.
The suspect is a 38-year-old man from Ringwood, NJ, while the victim was a 38-year-old woman who also resided in Ringwood. According to law enforcement officials, the suspect went to the Van Dunk Lane residence of the victim a short time before midnight on Wednesday and fired a shotgun blast through her front door. The victim was struck by the shotgun blast and died as a result of her injuries.
Ringwood NJ cops were sent to the scene to investigate a report of gunshots fired. When they got to the home, they found the suspect and arrested him. Police officers also reportedly found the shotgun used in the fatal attack.
Passaic County NJ detectives investigated the shooting and determined that the suspect and the victim used to date but had ended the relationship before the fatal shooting.
The suspect now faces multiple criminal charges, including first degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon. If he is convicted on the most serious charges of murder, he could potentially be sentenced to life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
