Paterson New Jersey Homicide AttorneysPaterson NJ police are trying to determine the identity of a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at a gas station.

The victim was shot just before 6:00 p.m. at a gas station near Route 20 and 1st Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey. The Paterson Police Department got a call about gunshots fired in the area and sent cops to the scene. The Hawthorne Police Department also sent police officers to the area to provide assistance.

When Paterson New Jersey cops got to the gas station, they found the victim lying on the pavement and suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical responders transported the victim via ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where doctors attempted to save his life. Tragically, doctors could not save the victim; he was later pronounced dead.

Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale issued a statement indicated that Paterson detectives are currently investigating the homicide and trying to figure out the identity of the shooter. At this time, law enforcement officials have not publicly released the identity of the victim because his family members still need to be notified.

If police can eventually determine who committed the homicide, the culprit would likely face first degree murder charges. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder carries a minimum penalty of 30 years in New Jersey State Prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
