The homicide happened around 11:15 p.m. According to authorities, Paterson police officers were dispatched to a neighborhood bar after receiving a report of a shooting.
When police officers arrived at Andy’s Bar, which is located at 77 North 7th Street in Paterson NJ, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds: a male in his 30s and a 27-year-old female.
Law enforcement said that the suspect walked into the bar and started shooting at the victims.
The female victim, who resided in Paterson, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. Tragically, doctors at the hospital were not able to save her; she was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the male victim was also taken to the medical center so that he could undergo surgery for his gunshot-related injuries.
The Paterson Police Department is actively investigating the homicide. At this time, investigators have yet to identify a suspect in the case.
If police eventually determine the suspect’s identity, it is likely that criminal charges for murder would follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is the most serious crime in the New Jersey Criminal Code. A conviction for first degree murder could result in life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison.
