Paterson New Jersey Homicide LawyersPaterson NJ law enforcement is currently investigating a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of one person and left another man with significant injuries.

The double shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. last Friday near the intersection of Godwin Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson, NJ. The Paterson Police Department got a 911 call about gunshots fired in the area. Paterson police officers were sent to the scene of the shooting, where they came across an auto accident. According to authorities, a red Cadillac convertible had crashed into a car that was parked on the side of the roadway. The driver of the Cadillac may have crashed the vehicle after sustained gunshot wounds.

The Cadillac driver was transported via ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson NJ, where doctors attempted to save his life. Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

While the shooting victim was received urgent medical care, another man suffering from gunshot wounds arrived at the Paterson NJ hospital. He had reportedly suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the same shooting incident. Authorities later indicated that the victim had been listed in critical but stable condition at the medical facility.

Paterson detectives are actively investigating the double shooting and attempting to determine exactly what might have happened.

If law enforcement officials can eventually figure out the identity of the shooter, that person would likely be charged with murder and weapons offenses. Since the NJ Criminal Code classifies murder as a special kind of first degree felony, a conviction on murder charges would lead to severe criminal penalties that include possible life imprisonment and a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years behind bars.
