Paterson New Jersey Homicide LawyersPaterson New Jersey detectives are investigating a fatal shooting incident on a city street.

The homicide occurred just after 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of East 19th Street and 17th Avenue in Paterson, NJ.

The Paterson Police Department got several reports of gunshots in the area and immediately sent patrol officers to the scene. When Paterson NJ cops got to the area, they came across the victim lying on the ground and suffering from serious injuries. Emergency medical responders briefly treated the victim at the scene and then transported him via ambulance St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. Doctors in the emergency room at the Paterson NJ hospital tried to save the victim’s life; tragically, the victim was later pronounced dead at the medical facility.

The victim was 24 years of age when he died due to his gunshot-related injuries.

The Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office issued a joint press release highlighting the fact that the two law enforcement agencies are working together on the investigation into the fatal shooting.

If investigators can eventually determine the identity of the suspect and locate that person, it is likely that criminal charges for first degree murder and weapons offenses would follow. A conviction on first degree murder charges could potentially result in a sentence of life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison.
